As powerful software applications such as RMS become more advanced the task of maintaining a hardware and network environment that allows it to operate at maximum efficiency becomes more onerous. Shifting to the RMS Cloud removes the requirement to manage an IT system at all. You simply connect to your data on our servers using any computer with access to the internet from anywhere. The responsibilities of backups, data security and maintaining optimum efficiency are left to us. The RMS Cloud lets you forget about the worry of running an IT system and get on with your business.

	RMS software is sold on the basis of the number of concurrent users accessing the system at any one time. The system can be used from any computer with internet access by the number of operators pursuant to the number of concurrent licence subscriptions held.

RMS Cloud

	Where are RMS and my data located?
	The RMS application and the data you create are hosted on our servers which are located in commercial data centres located at various sites around the world. You can use the system by connecting to the data remotely from anywhere in the world where you have an internet connection.
	What if my internet connection goes down?
	We recommend that you have an alternate internet connection such as a USB wireless broadband modem for those occasions when your ADSL service is interrupted. It is extremely unlikely that both networks would go offline at the same time. It is also a sound general policy to routinely print important reports such as the arrival and departure lists as a contingency against interruptions to power or internet.
	Can I get a copy of the data?
	The database that you create always remains yours. You can download a complete copy of the database at any time.
	Do I need to do backups?
	The overriding advantage of using software in the clouds is that you don't have to worry about anything. We do a complete backup of your data every three hours and transfer it off site every day. We also run complex disk arrays so that in the event of a hard disk failure there is no interruption to the service.
	Can I use my Mac computer?
	The software is not running on your computer so you can access RMS on any computer with access to the internet including any of the Apple-Macintosh products.
	Is the Cloud secure?
	Our servers are protected by sophisticated firewalls which are locked down except for the specific ports required to access RMS. Each user has a unique username and password. All traffic between the server and the client are encrypted for additional security.

Step 1 - Test your Internet Connection Speed

Operating RMS in the cloud requires a reasonably fast internet connection. You can test that your internet connection is suitable to operate RMS Cloud by running the test facility at http://www.speedtest.net

When this screen loads click on the "Begin Test" button to run the facility and record the results

 

 

Whilst the results are only an indicator it will give you a pretty good idea of the suitability of the connection.

Ideally you will need a:
Download speed of 1.5 Megabits per second or more, and an
Upload speed of .25 Megabits or more

You should also go to www.pingtest.net. Here you can test the quality of your internet connection. You may have issues running web based applications where your ping test receives a rating of less than a "C"

Choosing an Internet Service Provider

Your enjoyment of RMS Cloud will in large part depend on your choice of Internet Service Provider (ISP). Like all things you usually get what you pay for. Whilst the cheaper plans of some of the lesser known ISP's may be appealing it may be a false economy. Slow or poor quality connections will reduce the response times and may result in unexpected down times.

To date we have not experienced any problems with the following ISPs.
