Introduction

Watch this video for a simple explanation of RMSWEB

RMS has gone to the web. We are building a web based edition of RMS that you can access in your favourite browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. You don't need special hardware or software...just a computer with access to the internet.

There is nothing to install, maintain or backup. Once setup, just log on and start using it.

You can start to use some of the components of RMS right now including the new booking screen, rate grid and dynamic pricing.

RMS Dynamic Pricing

RMS now has the ability to automatically provide a rate depending on the occupancy level of your property at any given time. This is similar to when you book flights online and the price varies dependant on how full the plane is. This is the ultimate tool to manage your yield.

What is RMS Dynamic Pricing?

RMS Dynamic Pricing is the ability to set a range of rates that will automatically apply to a variety of preset occupancy brackets. Looking forward, RMS will calculate the current occupancy level of each day of a booking enquiry and apply a corresponding rate. As the property fills, the rates can automatically be raised or lowered according to your preferences.

Example:

If a query was made at this property for three nights beginning on the 10th, RMS would return the following rates:

Application

RMS Dynamic Pricing can be applied to bookings made online and reservations taken through traditional channels such as over the phone or via walk ins. The suggested rate can be overridden (with permissions) for negotiated rates or at the discretion of the manager.

Flexibility

Any number of occupancy brackets can be set with a range from 1% to 100%. Different rates can be applied to any occupancy bracket for a particular room type during specific seasons. The occupancy level can be calculated by:

• A single room type
• A group of room types (e.g. all rooms except executive spa rooms)
• The entire property

Distressed and/or Premium Inventory

Timeouts can also be applied to an occupancy bracket to allow for rooms that are still available approaching the date of arrival. This means a timeout bracket can be set that changes the rate down (or up for a peak period) when you still have a predetermined percentage of rooms available within a certain number of hours/days prior to the time the front desk is closed on the day of arrival (close out time).

For periods where strong demand is expected, the base tariff can be set high and progressively increased as the rooms are sold.

Test Your Connection

To get the most out of RMS WEB and/or RMS Cloud we recommend that you go through the following check list.
1. Test the speed and quality of your internet connection

  • You can test that your internet connection is suitable to operate RMS Cloud by running the test facility at http://www.speedtest.net
Whilst the results are only an indicator it will give you a pretty good idea of the suitability of the connection.
  • Ideally you will need a:
Download speed of 1.5 Megabits per second or more, and an
Upload speed of .25 Megabits or more
  • You should also go to www.pingtest.net. Here you can test the quality of your internet connection. You may have issues running web based applications where your ping test receives a rating of less than a "C"

2. Choosing an ISP

Your enjoyment of RMSWEB / RMS cloud will in large part depend on your choice of Internet Service Provider (ISP). Like all things you usually get what you pay for. Whilst the cheaper plans of some of the lesser known ISP's may be appealing it could end up being a false economy. Slow or poor quality connections will reduce the response times and may result in unexpected down times.

To date we have not experienced any problems with the following ISPs.

Australia
Telstra Internet Direct www.telstra.com.au/internetdirect
Bigpond www.bigpond.com
Internode www.internode.on.net
iiNet www.iinet.net.au
TPG www.tpg.com.au

  3. Dedicated Internet Connection
Do you have a dedicated internet connection to your office? Idealy you will have an internet connection that is only for office use including RMS. If you provide internet for your guests using the same connection you may have a less satisfactory experinece with the Cloud or RMSWEB.
  4. Provision for Redundancy
You may wish to exlore a secondary internet connection in case of internet downtime. A usefull option is a 3G USB modem which will suffice as a short term option.
  5. Bandwidth Requiremnts
The RMS Cloud or RMS WEB requires very little bandwidth. If you fit comfortably within your current internet plan then most likely you won't need to extend it. When using RMS from the cloud you are not actually dragging data across the internet but rather viewing information which is on the server. Each time you connect to the RMS Cloud you use approximately 80-100kb. Internet usage while in the cloud will vary dependant on the types of task the operator is performing but might typically be around 10mb per hour per user.

  6. Logging on to the Test Version of RMS WEB

To test drive RMSWEB go to www.rmsweb.com.au and enter the following details:

RMS Client Number: 3967

Username: guest

Password: guest

The first tme you access RMSWEB you may be asked to install Silverlight if not already present on your computer. Say yes and accept the defaults to install Silverlight
  7. Using RMS WEB in a self Hosted environment
If you are connecting RMS WEB to a self hosted copy of RMS you will need either a Static IP address or a Dynamic DNS. Watch the video below to understand how to do this.

FAQs

What is RMSWEB?

Traditionally RMS software has been deployed as what might be called a "desktop" application. This means that the software itself and the data it creates is installed on the computers at the property and maintained by the user.

To further enhance the functionality and usability of our products we have launched RMSWEB. This gives you the ability to use RMS via a web browser in much the same way that you would use a web based email service or internet banking.

NOn cloud
RMSWEB is currently used in parallel with the Cloud or the desktop method of RMS. It is simply another method of accessing your data. Eventually RMSWEB will replace the desktop method and become the sole method for accessing the Cloud. For now it is fantastic way for us to deliver some very exciting features including, dynamic pricing, the tariff grid, a host of new reports and the RMS Dashboard.

The RMS tariff calculator has been completely rewritten in RMSWEB making the task of setting your rates significantly quicker and simpler.
